Sandbox Plus Bonus
I found a little sandbox turtle for the girls on craigslist and went to pick it up the other day. I was getting the turtle out of the garage when I saw that she had a bouncer, much like one I saw on craigslist earlier in the morning and emailed to buy for Hannah's birthday, planning on selling it again after the party. It would be perfect: a fun party with a jumper that I didn't have to buy or store. The lady said, "Don't buy one, I will rent you mine for cheap." Really?? So, we not only got a sandbox turtle which both girls love (and Kate would like to live in)
we got an added bonus of a jumper to use for Hannah's party this Saturday!! We set it up today and Hannah and Jeff had a great time...Kate preferred to watch, but by Saturday she may want to join in the fun.

I'm pretty sure Hannah thought today was her birthday. I know she will have a blast on Saturday when you add a few friends and grandparents to the mix.

Victoria Beckham Watch Out!
Today I was told that Hannah's hair looked very Victoria Beckham. She does look cute, but with her birthday this Saturday, and trying to wrap my mind around the idea that she is actually getting older, I was hoping her new hairdo would make her look younger. She is still my silly little girl though!

Kate is feeling better so we went to the park for some fresh air and to get some energy out of Hannah. This kid has energy!!!
The girls switched shoes
Hannah couldn't walk in Kate's shoes because the wood chips hurt her feet and Kate kept falling in Hannah's new shoes. It really brought meaning to the phrase "walk a mile in my shoes" since they could only walk in their shoes. It made me think about grateful for the "shoes" God has given me, with all the ups and downs. No one could walk a mile in my shoes, and I could not walk a mile in anyone elses. Here are the ups in my life:
And here is a down (Kate is going kill me for this picture when she is older!):
My poor sick baby girl. She followed me around all day say, "Up mama" and who could say no to this face? I'm so thankful she's healthy again!

Haircut
It was time. Hannah had very short hair on the left side of her head, shoulder length on the right and long hair in the back. The ends were all uneven, and it was time. I was so nervous to cut her hair, but I actually think her little bob haircut is quite cute on her.
Before (not excited about getting her hair cut)
After (happy to get a chocolate chip as a reward)
In other news, Kate is sick again, poor baby. It is the beginning of spring, which means new viruses and bacteria. I am thankful for the few healthy days that we had between sicknesses and I hope this one passes quickly.
Kate slept about 4 hours in the afternoon. She was so happy to sleep on daddy for some of that naptime.

Goodnight
We're tired. It's been a long two weeks, and Hannah decided to put Jeff to bed rather than Jeff putting her to bed. She even sang him "Jesus loves you" just like Jeff does every night. Even in our fatigue, there is nothing like the love of family.

Let's Go Fly a Kite
Yesterday we took the initiative to create our own wind and have a fun time flying kites. It was fun watching these girls run around trying to get their kites to soar. Although the kites spent a lot of time descending or on the ground, running around with family you love it never wasted energy.

Future kite flyer (not my sister but the baby growing inside her):
Craigslist
I am a total craigslister. I have been searching for end tables and a coffee table for our new place, and came across this ad:
Crate-and-Barrel like endish table thing. Almost no scratches.
It made me chuckle. I thought I should share it.

9-1-What??
On Friday Kate's eyes had green nasty mucus all over and I was worried she might have pink eye. I called the doctor and they wanted to examine her. Turns out my poor baby had a sinus infection. She started antibiotics Friday night and seemed more like herself, but still slow moving and cuddly, by Saturday. Monday morning she woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed though, talking and playing just like normal.
Hannah's sickness began on Saturday and seemed to get worse by the evening. At 11:30pm her coughing woke me up. I went to put another pillow under her head to prop her up and turn the humidifier on when I heard her breathing hard. I went back to bed, but worried a lot, so I checked on her again and she felt warm but told me she was cold. I called the after hours nurse hotline and told the nurse that Hannah was shivering, felt warm, coughing and having a hard time breathing. The nurse said, "I am not a medical doctor so I can not make a diagnosis but I recommend that you hang up immediately and call 9-1-1."
I was totally shocked because I was hoping to hear, "Give her some Tylenol and if her fever is not better in the morning take her to the ER" or in the worse case scenario I imagined she would say, "Bring her to the ER so we can check her out." I never thought she would say call 9-1-1.
I woke up Jeff panicked and he said, "Well, then call." I did and they dispatched an emergency medical team that was in our house within minutes. Hannah was still shivering and seemed to be struggling to breath. They took her temp: 103.8 and listened to her chest. There was no congestion in the chest so they said she was probably struggling to breath because of the high temp and the extreme shivering. They recommended taking her to the ER, either in the ambulance or we could drive her ourselves.
So, off I went to the ER with Hannah at midnight (I knew I would be too worried to sleep so I took her while Jeff tried to go back to sleep). Hannah had a chest X-ray which was clear, and after an extra strong dose of Motrin, Hannah's temp came down. We were then sent home at 2:30 am (with the time change though it was 3:30 am) with the recommendation to call our pediatrician on Monday.
Sunday she did not seem better. In fact, at 11:30 am (10:30 am with the time change) she said, "I have an idea. Let's take a nap." She then went to her bed and napped for 5 hours. She was definitely sick.
I called the pediatrician on Monday hoping they would say, "Keep giving her the medicine until her fever breaks" but instead they said, "Bring her in." If any of you are counting, this is my third doctor's visit in 4 days.
The doctor looked at her and said it sounded like Fifths disease. She checked her ears and both ears had an infection. She asked if the ER looked in Hannah's ears because she clearly had the infection for a while, but no, the ER listened to her chest, took X-rays, gave her some medicine and sent us home.
We started Hannah's round of antibiotics on Monday evening. So between 4 hour intervals of Tylenol, 8 hour intervals of Motrin, and 12 hour intervals of Amoxicillin Hannah seems to be getting better. Her fever broke yesterday and this morning while eating breakfast she said, "Mommy what we gonna do today? We can go to a friend's house or a park. You choose." Although her bossiness is something we are working on, it was so good to hear her sound more like herself again.

Gardening
I love gardening, which makes this house a huge blessing because there is a lot of gardening to be done. The tenants who lived here the past 6 years hired a gardener to come, but that gardener seemed to whack the tops off of weeds rather than pulling them, so there is a ton, and I mean a TON, of weeding to be done. Last week I removed a dead tree and a grapefruit tree that produced the worst grapefruits, even after they were covered with sugar, I have ever tasted. While I was shoveling away the girls ran in the sprinklers, played on the slide, and rode on their bikes.
My girls had different ideas of how to enjoy the sprinklers...Hannah ran in and out of the water and Kate caught the water in a cup. Both were happy and giggly the entire time!
Hannah, Kate, Jeff and I planted strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, and peas. We have plans to also start a herb garden area, but I need to take out another dead plant before I can get there, and herbs don't need to be planted until May sometime so I have a little more time to prep that area.
Cool mornings...
...warm afternoons.
These girls L-O-V-E their daddy!
YEAH!!!

Google has Limits??
Apparently my blog has exceeded my limit in pictures. What does that mean for my blog? I think I will have to back up the old posts in order to make some new ones. Add it to the list of things to do...

New Things
Kate's new thing is to do everything by herself, and when I try to do something she says, "No, I do." The only problems: she doesn't have the skills yet. So, after many mornings of cleaning up oatmeal from all over, I decided Kate should drink her breakfast. The only problem: she didn't want me to hold the bowl close enough for her to drink from it, so instead I stacked the bowls and she drank quite happily until her tummy was full and she said, "Thanks mama." SO worth it!
Then at the park she spent about 5 minutes trying to put her shoes on before she just gave up and walked barefoot on wood chips because she wanted to do it herself. So NOT worth it!
Hannah's new thing is to tell jokes. This was her joke tonight:
Hannah: Daddy, I have a joke.
Jeff: Okay tell me your joke.
Hannah: Knock, knock
Jeff: Who's there?
Hannah: Banana bear
Jeff: Banana bear who?
Hannah: Mommy!!

And here's another funny thing from my jokester: while at the park Hannah drank all her apple juice, then emerged from underneath the playground equipment and yelled, "Mom you're coffee's ready!" She had filled the cup with wood chips and stuck a huge stick in the cup as a straw. I'm so relieved she didn't say, "Mom, you're wine's ready" which is the other beverage known as "Mommy's drink" in our house.

A Funny Conversation
H: Where are we going? (which she asks a million times a day, even when we are going no where)
S: The store.
H: What are you doing now?
S: Trying to park sweetie.
After a three point turn gone wrong and two cars not happy to be waiting on a crazy lady driver (namely me) I say
S: Oh nuts! I'm in a pickle!
H: Is that what we are getting at the store.
And all the stress of the moment turned into laughter. I love being a mom!!
