Sisters Love Sisters

Hannah takes her role as an older sister seriously. Here is my little helper holding and singing to Rachel Lee:

And here is Hannah "reading" to her two little sisters:

I don't know how many times I say to the girls, "Sisters love sisters" but I hope that it is starting to take root. Seeing the girls love each other as much as I love each of them is truly a blessing.

6 Weeks

Rachel Lee is 6 weeks old, and perfect (yes, perfect!) in every way. How is she perfect you are asking yourself? Well, she eats well during the day, naps twice during the day (a morning and afternoon nap) and she wakes two times at night (once around midnight and once between 4-5) will eat and instantly goes back to sleep. AND she has done this all on her own! I have not tried to schedule her or put her on a routine, she just has naturally fallen into this pattern. She is a dream baby!

AND since she is eating well, she is gaining weight well. She is now 8 pounds 6 ounces, gaining 22 ounces in the last 24 days (and for those who don't know, doctors recommend that babies gain half an ounce to an ounce a day). She is still only in the 10th percentile (remember my nephew Nate born at 8 pounds 1 ounce? or my niece who was 4 weeks early weighing 7 ponds 4 ounces?) but that's because she started off smallish (I added the ish because she is really my biggest baby so it's hard to call her small).

AND, just look at her. She is gorgeous! I look at her all the time and think she is just beautiful! Even when she is crying her lips pucker out and she just seems so. darn. cute!

AND did I mention that she smile at us now? When we talk to her she smiles and coos. It melts my heart every time.
AND she loves her sisters. She will be crying and as soon as Hannah takes her hand she will at least stop for a second and look at her. Kate also loves holding her, and the entire time Rachel Lee just looks around soaking in all the love.

So, what more can you ask for in a newborn: she eats well, she sleeps well, she loves her family. I told you she was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Valentines: 2011

In light of Valentine's Day I have been thinking about my marriage to my true love, Jeffrey Patrick. With a newborn this year, our Valentine's Day consisted of a weekend at the cabin with my parents followed by a dinner at Chik-fil-A with the kiddos and a rented movie when we got home and after we got the kids to bed. Romantic, no, but perfect for this season in our life where getting a babysitter is not realistic.

Biblical love, true love, is not based on romance. So, here is an assessment that I saw on the website http://lysaterkeurst.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/The_Love_Quiz.pdf  to see if my love is really reflecting the Biblical love that God desires for us to show in our marriage:

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Assessment
Am I patient with my spouse? EPHESIANS 4:2-3
Am I kind to my spouse? EPHESIANS 4:31-32
Am I supportive (not envious) with my spouse? JAMES 3:16-18
Am I encouraging (not boastful) to my spouse? HEBREWS 3:13
Am I humble (not proud) with my spouse? 1 PETER 5:6
Am I gracious (not rude) to my spouse?  EPHESIANS 4:29
Am I selfless (not self-seeking) with my spouse? PHILIPPIANS 2:3-4
Am I self-controlled (not easily angered) with my spouse? PROVERBS 15:1
Am I able to forgive and let go (keeping no record of wrongs) with my spouse’s
shortcomings? COLOSSIANS 3:12-14
Do I delight in being faithful to God (not delighting in evil)? EPHESIANS 4:1
Do I rejoice with the truth? JOHN 8:31-32
Do I seek to protect my spouse? 1 THESSALONIANS 5:11
Do I trust my spouse? 1 PETER 3:8
Do I keep hope alive in my marriage? JEREMIAH 29:11
Do I persevere in my marriage? MATTHEW 5:33
Am I devoted to the permanence of our marriage? MALACHI 2:16

YIKES! That's a tall order.

I listened to a Podcast today called, "Mommy Stress: Finding Peace in Your Parenting" posted by Focus on the Family and there was a segment where the speaker was asked how husbands can support their wives during the day and the speaker, Lysa TerKerust, replied that she is waiting for her kids to rise up and call her blessed, and until that day a husband can fill that gap. I instantly thought that, "Ah, Jeff needs to hear this!" It's a entire 30 minutes about being a mom and finding peace in God and I turned it into a segment on how my husband can better serve me. Sheesh...how is this being kind, gracious, or selfless?

Lord, I give you my marriage and recognize that without you interceding for me I will mess it up completely. Help me love Jeff in a way that will bring honor to you. Change my heart so I can be selfless, kind, gracious and forgiving.

And on a lighter note, I took all three girls to playgroup on Monday where we decorated Valentine's day bags, passed out cards, and decorated sugar cookies. It was a crazy day for me, but a day filled with love!

SNOW!!

My family took a weekend trip to the cabin in Big Bear to enjoy a day in the snow. We had a great time together. I especially loved that Hannah kept asking if it was Christmas because in her mind snow and Christmas go together. The concept of winter is completely lost on her.

This was Kate's favorite type of sled...it's like a wagon built for the snow. She especially loved when Jeff pulled her up the hill.

The Greats

Meet the Greats. Great Grandparents that is. We are blessed to have some great grandparents within driving distance. What a sweet legacy for our family!

Psalms 100: 1-5
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God!It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
