CIO Night 5 was spent at at Cindy and Roger's house...
9:00 Kate went to sleep
5:00 am Kate woke, I fed her and she went back to sleep
6:30 am Kate woke for the day
CIO Night 6
8:00 pm Kate went to sleep with full belly
3:30 am Kate woke up, Jeff tried to give her a bottle but she refused
4:00 am Kate fell back asleep
6:30 am Kate woke up for the day
Why did Jeff try to feed her? We agreed to feed Kate at 5 am or thereabouts, and he felt that 3:30 was close enough. I'm glad she didn't want to eat because I really want her to sleep at 3:30, not eat.
So, a little backwards progress, but still better than where we were. We set out sheets and blankets on the floor in our room and we have told Hannah that if Kate cries to come into our room and sleep. Last night she was in our room sleeping like a baby...well, like most babies.

Fantastic Fourth
We spent the 4th of July with Jeff's parents and three brothers in San Pedro. We played chalk, went to a park, had a BBQ and hung out together. Hannah stayed up late, and after an initial scare, enjoyed the fireworks. Kate slept through the show and through the night!! :) It was a fantastic weekend!

Zoo Day
Jeff has taken today off of work. We had a nice family day with about half of San Diego at the zoo this morning...we figure the other half is at the beach! The San Diego Zoo just opened a new elephant display, Elephant Odyssey and it was really nicely done. It encompasses more land, so the elephants are further away than they used to be, but all in all it's better for the elephants.

CIO Night 3
Night 3:
8 pm Put Kate to bed with a full tummy
11:30 pm Kate begins to cry, Hannah wakes up so Jeff moves her into our room and she sleeps on the floor
12:00 am Kate stops crying
4:30 am Kate begins to cry so I feed her and then return her to her crib
6:00 am Kate wakes up and Jeff gets her and lets her sleep on him
7:00 am Hannah wakes up and the day begins
1/2 hour of crying...BETTER progress. The hardest part of all the crying it out is not knowing if it will work, when it will work, and if there will be a regression and we will have to go through all of this again. But, the promise of a full night sleep keeps Jeff and I trudging ahead, and the progress Kate is making is encouraging!

CIO Night 2
Night two of CIO:
8 pm Kate goes to bed awake and full
9:30 pm Jeff and I go to bed
10 pm Neighbor begins dance party
12 am Dance party ends
12:30 am Kate cries
12:35 am Hannah starts yelling at Kate so I move Hannah to the floor in our room, turn the sound machine on and begin praying
2 am I don't hear Kate so I check on her and she seems quiet
5:30 am Hannah starts rolling and stirring
6 am Both girls are awake and my day begins
An hour and a half of crying is better than last night. Progress...let's pray Kate is a fast learner.

CIO
Cry. it. out.
Kate has had a good stretch then a bad stretch, then a good stretch and now we are in a bad stretch, and by good I mean waking once or twice a night and by bad I mean waking every 2-3 hours.
Last night we put Kate to bed with a full tummy at 8. She then woke at 11 and Jeff gave her a bottle. She then woke again at 2 and I was so tired that I had had enough. I went into the girl's room, picked up Hannah (who was telling Kate "Quiet! Nigh-nigh Kate! NO Kate!"), laid Hannah on the floor in our room, turned on the sound machine and declared it was good. Jeff went to sleep, Hannah stirred for a while, talked to doll-doll a bit and then went to sleep and slept until 9a.m. I guess she was tired of her sister's crying too! Unfortunately I could still hear Kate's muffled cries over the sound machine (which should tell you how loud our little girl can be) and actually had to remind myself that she was big enough to cry for a long time, that she is in a safe area where nothing can harm her and that crying it out will not damage her for life (I hope). I almost convinced myself that she had an ear infection or was teething and she needed Tylenol and maybe if I held her for a while to calm her down she would fall back to sleep - but I was strong and did not go into her room. I know she cried for 2 1/2 hours because I heard her, and she may have cried longer, but I think I fell asleep. This is quite possibly the hardest thing to do...to actively ignore her cries. My reassurance comes from seeing her this morning when she woke up happy and did not seem upset by last nights events. Here she is eating a peach:
She doesn't seem like she needs therapy yet. I hope CIO works this time!!!!!!
